Our Technology

The CPF's primary objective with respect to its information system is to ensure that it has a technology platform that will enable it to process asbestos injury claims efficiently and effectively over time. All software and hardware upgrade proposals are carefully evaluated from the standpoint of administrative and operational benefits, risks and financial cost. This allows it to meaningfully control costs without giving up the significant benefits associated with ongoing technological advancements.

Claim Processing Application

The CPF claim processing application has been developed in-house for the primary purpose of processing asbestos injury claims, and includes a fully customized reporting package. This application is based on modular components and is designed for maximum efficiency and scalability. The CPF believes its claim processing application provides sufficient flexibility to bring a new Trust online within 30 to 40 calendar days, assuming the new set of business rules are roughly comparable to those currently in place. The time period required to bring a new member online will likely be somewhat longer if the business rules differ materially.

Computer Environment

To maximize internal operating efficiency, and to enable highly secure and efficient remote access, the CPF computer environment is based on the Citrix™ thin client model with the Citrix™ Secure Access Gateway SSL VPN securing all remote access.

Electronic Claim Filing

CPF has an electronic claim filing system that enables claimants' counsel to file claims electronically using the Web. More information is available on the EFile page.

Third Party Audits

The CPF network and application have been subjected to regular ongoing independent third party audits. For example, CPF retained RKON Technologies to perform a server and internet security audit in 2001. RKON concluded that “CPF’s information security is quite impressive” and that “password policies, disaster recovery documentation, self-auditing procedures and server build checklists are exemplary”. In 2006, CPF retained RKON Technologies to perform a Vulnerability assessment in which they concluded they were “impressed with the technical aptitude, dedication and speed of the network staff when it came to matters of security” and that “they are dedicated to making security their primary goal rather than an afterthought”.

IT Staff

Most CPF IT functions are performed by an in-house group of highly competent technical staff.
