Our History
In 1982, UNARCO Industries, Inc. due to an abundance of personal asbestos injury liabilities filed for bankruptcy.
A plan of reorganization was confirmed in 1989, establishing the UNR Trust to handle the asbestos personal injury claims.
The UNR Asbestos-Disease Claims Trust (UNR)
was established in February 1990. The UNR Trust was set up as its own claims processing facility, which opened on
April 1, 1990 in North Aurora, Illinois.
In 1991, Eagle-Picher Industries, Inc. filed bankruptcy petitions
under Chapter 11 of the Bankruptcy Code. On November 29, 1996, the Eagle-Picher Industries, Inc. Personal Injury
Settlement Trust (EPI) was established. The EPI Trust joined forces with the UNR Trust to establish the Claims
Processing Facility, Inc. (CPF) on April 16, 1998. At that time the CPF was a cooperative corporation jointly owned by the two member trusts.
Between 1998 - 2005, the CPF processed over 900,000 asbestos personal injury claims.
In 2006, the CPF underwent structural changes with the UNR Trust exiting as a cooperative member and the EPI Trust
assuming sole ownership of the CPF. The CPF continues to process the UNR claims on a contractual basis. Additionally,
the Keene Trust chose the CPF to initiate its asbestos personal injury claims processing. By the end of 2007, the CPF
has processed over 1,000,000 asbestos injury claims for all trusts.
